Hercandid use of sentences and words to describesavage situations sometimes leaves the reader bothstunned and wondering. Much of her work revolvesaround the dire implications of the Holocaust andits aftermath. For Ozick, the career of writingbecame a medium of working through the traumaof humiliation and discrimination of her schoolyears and of the American society in general.
