Man is social animal. He has to establish himself in society. Likewise students are part of the society. In order to establish themselves in society they should be socially intelligent. Thus, social intelligence is one of the most important aspect of the personality and it can help to lead a successful life. In the present study, the investigator has attempted to study the social intelligence of B. Ed. students. The sample consisted of 685 B. Ed. students, who are studying B.Ed degree in colleges of education in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari Districts of Tamilnadu in India. The investigator adapted survey method. The findings of the study were i) Significant difference is found between rural and urban area college B. Ed. students in their social information processing, social awareness and social efficacy. While comparing the mean scores, urban area college B. Ed. students are better than the rural area college B. Ed. students in their social information processing and social efficacy. ii) Significant difference is found between day-scholar and hosteller B. Ed. students in their social information processing, social awareness, social sensitivity and social intelligence. While comparing the mean scores, hosteller B. Ed. students are better than the day-scholar B. Ed. students in their social information processing, social skills, social awareness, social sensitivity, social efficacy and social intelligence.an is social animal.
