Sharon Mills Draper, born (August 21, 1948) is an American children’s writer and an educator. The writer is awarded National Teacher of the Year in 1997. The novel Out of My Mind is about a young girl named Melody Brooks. The protagonist Melody Brooks is a disabled character affected by cerebral palsy. The young girl is born with high intelligence and has a photographic memory. The main theme of this novel is disability. The present paper aims to prove that this book will change the readers’ perspective of seeing people with disabilities and also the way in which each one treats everyone in their lives. The writer, Sharon M.
