Man as a social animal interacts with society at all times & at all stages of life. This interaction has always led him to communicate his views, ideas, thoughts and opinions with others around him, his family members, peers, fellow workers etc. His irresistible urge to share his views has led him into many a discussion, forming small groups at various places. Organizations are increasingly using this form of communication, called Group Discussion, to select suitable candidates for their organization. The paper attempts to highlight the necessity & benefits of developing the ability in students to discuss issues of importance and interest through the medium of English while focusing on its role in the recruitment process and the need for teachers to follow more learner centric ways in their teaching of English. Key Words: English Proficiency Index (EPI), text-book trap, teacher-oriented etc.
