English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is a branch within education or within language education. The scope of EAP is ‘linguistic, socio-linguistic, and psycho-linguistic description of English” EAP is an eclectrc, pragmatic discipline. A wide range of linguistic, applied linguistic and educational topics can be considered from the perspective of English for academic purposes. EAP is centered on two areas: Needs analysis and Materials developments. Needs analysis has different approaches and analysis such as Target situation analysis present-situation analysis, learning centered approach, strategy analysis, means analysis etc. This paper presents the academic purposes of English and its different approaches to help the students to identify their skill areas and achieve their goals.
