Githa Hariharan’s “The Thousand Faces of Night” has marriage as its central issue. The protagonist of this work struggles hard to enter and get out of marriage. The protagonist of the novel enters into an arrange marriage with unrealistic notions of life, love and marriage. Her sense of individualism is strong to the extent that she feels trapped in it. We find Devi’s marriage with Mahesh fails because she does not find Mahesh the kind of person she has imagined him to be. Their inner selves remain un united.
