English pronunciation is one of the important areas of language acquisition which is generally taught at later stages of education in ESL contexts. There is a need for introduction of phonology and phonetics at the earliest stage of English language learning so that learners achieve native-like accents in English. The paper focuses on a range of factors concerning the teaching of English to young learners and recommends use of phonetic primers as opposed to the conventional materials in ESL contexts.
