Communication skills are essential to survive in today’s world, be it in business or technical or academic line. Hence, it becomes essential for the learners to enhance their skills in communication to keep pace with the modern world. In order to improve the communication skills of the learners, different pedagogical strategies need to be employed. Using storytelling in the classroom is one of the methodologies to develop the skills of the learners by improving oral language, reading comprehension, and writing. As reading and writing are interrelated skills, storytelling is an effective pedagogical tool that can be woven into instruction to increase students’ competencies in all areas. This paper is based on the tasks conducted at SRC, SASTRA University, Kumbakonam for first year Undergraduate Students and will address how storytelling can be used as a pedagogical strategy in the classroom to enhance skills in the areas of reading and writing among the tertiary level learners. Further it also deals with some interesting activities for the students through the act of telling tales that enhances their creative mind.
