The objective of this paper is to spell out the overview of neoliberal globalization and its impact in the academia with reference to the contemporary Indian milieu and discuss the nuances of this phenomenon. This paper affirms that this phenomenon can be used effectively with less negative side effects given the individual the thorough knowledge of its usefulness and the crucial role it can play in the development process of the individual in particular and the academic system that prevails as a whole. The contemporary era is an age of material affluence, political consciousness, democratic reforms, cybernation, globalization, technical advancement, mechanical progress, privatization and educational expansion. As the result of advancements, people have become materialistic in their approach. The rigorous urge for private sector engagement in education is debatably shrinking the space for public processes of policy making and deliberation, sidelining citizens as the key drivers of policy while private enterprises and institutions become more dominant. Hence, the semi privatization of the education sector can thus be in place so that the fundamental policy making, procedural processes, fixation of fee structure and major decision making can be in the control of the government and the execution of the approved system can be handled by the private sector; this will ensure that the world class education is imparted to all the citizens of India irrespective of the caste, creed and economic status. The private sectors can continue to makea reasonable profit whereas the ultimate hold will still continue to be in the hands of the government. Keywords: Neoliberalism, Globalization, Privatization, Academia, Government, Education
